St. Patrick’s Breastplate

Some quotes from St. Patrick’s breastplate prayer.

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a mulitude.

Christ with me
Christ before me
Christ behind me
Christ in me
Christ beneath me
Christ above me
Christ on my right
Christ on my left
Christ where I lie
Christ where I sit
Christ where I arise
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me
Christ in the mouth of every one who speaks to me
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Salvation is of the Lord.
Salvation is of the Christ.
May your salvation, Lord, be ever with us.

So glad you posted this. I heard it on Sunday in my Perspectives class.
The story of St. Patrick is such a fascinating picture of God’s hand in history.

    • Oh, you’re welcome, Hannah! I agree–St. Patrick has a wonderful story. I’d never read the whole Breastplate Prayer, and I really enjoyed doing so. Reading it, you can feel his cry to God for protection and success in his evangelism efforts.
