Star of India

This 563.35 carat diamond was stolen from the Hall of Gems in the Natural History Museum of New York in 1964. It was the only gem in the collection that was rigged with an alarm, but that wasn’t much help as the alarm wasn’t working at the time. The thieves scooped up $400,000 worth of jewels that night but were soon apprehended. Most of the gems, including the Star of India were recovered; however, the same can’t be said of the Eagle Diamond.
